Do you need a permit for a Washington DC elopement?

Some spots need a permit and others don’t. I’ll walk you through exactly what’s needed so nothing catches you off guard.

Absolutely! You can keep it just the two of you or invite up to 25 guests for your elopement. I’ll help you choose locations that work well with your group size. Micro weddings can have up to 50 people and will require a venue of some sort.

Can we include guests in our DC micro wedding?

Yes! DC allows you to legally self-officiate, which means you can exchange vows privately, no judge or officiant needed (you can have them if you want, though). This allows you to fully customize your ceremony and overall elopement in DC!

Can you self-officiate a wedding in Washington DC?

I don’t offer quick courthouse-style elopements or 1–2 hour sessions. My minimum is 4 hours (with 6-8 hours most popular with my couples) to give you enough time to slow down, be present, and create an experience that feels intentional and meaningful from start to finish.

Do you offer shorter sessions for elopements?

Honestly, some of the most emotional, unforgettable photos happen in wild weather. Wind, fog, and even a little rain can add so much magic and movement to your story, so as long as it’s safe, I often recommend embracing it with the right mindset.
That said, I always help you prepare a solid Plan B, and we can adjust timing or pivot locations if needed. If you’d like extra peace of mind, you can also add a Rain Date Add-On to reserve the day before or after your celebration as a dedicated backup. That way, we have built-in flexibility without stress.
