So many couples think elopements are supposed to be quick, simple, or squeezed into a tiny window of time. However, I wholeheartedly believe that elopement is still your wedding day. It deserves space and intention. It deserves a timeline that lets you slow down, breathe, explore, and fully experience the moment you say yes to your forever.
A great elopement timeline isn’t about micromanaging your day. It’s about creating freedom! When the flow of the day is intentional, you can be present rather than feeling rushed from one thing to the next.
As a DC + VA elopement photographer, I help couples craft timelines that feel like them, with space to breathe and be present. Now, let’s walk through how elopement timelines work, what’s possible, and why giving yourself a little more time is almost always the best decision.

Let’s start with the question on everyone’s mind: Do we really need THAT much time?
I get it. If you’re not planning a big traditional wedding, it might feel strange to think about spending six or eight hours celebrating. However, elopements aren’t about doing less, rather… they’re about doing what matters most.
You’re not posing all day. You’re living your day—getting ready, adventuring, sharing vows, exploring the city or nature, eating great food, laughing with guests, and soaking it all in. The more time you give yourselves, the more your experience (and your photo gallery) will reflect how it actually felt.
Longer coverage allows space for all the things you may not even be thinking about right now, but that WILL add up, like:
Most couples are surprised by how quickly the day goes and grateful they didn’t limit themselves to a short window that would’ve felt cramped.
And if you’re still wondering whether 8 hours is totally worth it, check out my blog here!

Your elopement timeline doesn’t have to be rigid. Think of it as a gentle structure that keeps your day flowing, while still leaving plenty of room for spontaneity.
Here are a few things I consider when helping you plan:
So all of this to say, your timeline is personalized to YOU and built with intention so the day flows beautifully and matches your priorities and vision.

Every couple has different priorities, different energy levels, and different visions for their elopement. That’s why I offer several packages, each allowing for a particular kind of experience.
With a two-day package, nothing feels rushed or squeezed in. You can be fully present with your guests and fully present with each other. Two days let you savor everything — the joy, the quiet moments, the adventure, the connection.
Two days mean full flexibility. Explore two different regions, mix city + nature, host a small celebration one day, and keep the other completely private. You don’t have to choose between meaningful moments, because you have the time to experience everything.
