There are so many wonderful Maryland elopement locations! From mountaintop views and waterfront ceremonies, to historic venues and cute old towns, there’s a spot here for every vibe. To get you started, I’ve rounded up some of the best places to elope in Maryland. And if you’re still deciding, I’d love to help you brainstorm and plan a day that feels 100% like you!

Sugarloaf Mountain

Sugarloaf Mountain is a great choice if you’d like to be surrounded by nature and add some adventure to your elopement day. This private mountain in Frederick County offers gorgeous hiking trails and breathtaking vistas. There are several trail options ranging in difficulty, so you can choose how much hiking you’re feeling up to!

The trails are open from 8 AM up until sunset, and there’s parking available as well. You’re not allowed to have a ceremony on the property, however, you can work around it and visit here for your elopement photos. There isn’t an official fee to go and visit the property for your photos, however, they request you make a voluntary donation of $5 or more.

It’s also close to Frederick, giving you the option to stay nearby in the city and explore it as a part of your elopement experience. Also, if you’re considering an intimate wedding with these beautiful views, the Strong Mansion on the property may be rented for events!

Rawlings Conservatory

Rawlings Conservatory in Baltimore is an amazing elopement location for couples who want an intimate, whimsical day surrounded by lush tropical plants and colorful flowers. The conservatory’s glass architecture adds a timeless, elegant touch to your photos. Seasonal plant displays may also offer unique backdrops depending on the time of year.

Here you can have an intimate elopement, or rent one of the on-site venues for your wedding day of up to 100 people. Elopement packages start at $300 for a weekday elopement, but you can learn more about the rates and options here. The Conservatory requires a photography permit, but that’s something I’d absolutely take care of as your Maryland elopement photographer.

It’s one of my fav elopement venues in Maryland and you could combine it with a picnic celebration in Cascade Falls in Patapsco Valley State Park — a gorgeous park only 30 minutes away, with no permit needed!

Kilgore Falls & Rocks State Park

Located in Rocks State Park, Kilgore Falls is Maryland’s second-highest waterfall and one of its most serene natural spots. This spot is quite easily accessible by a short, easy hike, which is nice!

If you’d like to explore other options in Rocks State Park, it really is one of the most beautiful Maryland elopement locations. The iconic King and Queen’s Seat overlook is a dramatic rock formation with panoramic views of the surrounding forest, but it is a more challenging hike.

Elopement permits are not required at the moment, however, always double-check as you’re planning to avoid extra stress on your day. That’s something I do for my couples! Be mindful that the park can get busy during peak seasons, but it’s also rather popular during the off-season. The parking is limited, so once that’s full the area is at capacity, so plan to arrive early.

This photo was taken at the waterfall in Shenandoah National Park, but the picture is very similar vibes to Kilgore Falls.

Weverton Cliffs

If you’re up for a bit of adventure, Weverton Cliffs offers breathtaking views of the Potomac River and the surrounding valleys. This location near Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia, is accessible via a moderately challenging hike, making it perfect for couples who want to add a bit of exploration to their day. The stunning overlook is worth every step.

The trail can be rocky, so definitely have sturdy footwear. Hiking boots look amazing with dresses! There is a medium size parking is available but it fills up quickly, especially on weekends. So I definitely recommend going for a sunrise elopement and opting for weekdays for the least crowds.

Gramercy Mansion

Gramercy Mansion is a beautiful location for a fairytale elopement! This historic mansion’s stunning gardens and romantic Tudor-style architecture set the stage for an elegant and intimate celebration. The venue offers elopement packages of up to 30 people that include access to the gardens and indoor spaces, ensuring an easy, relaxed experience.

There are also options to have a larger wedding of up to 150 people, which you can learn more about here!

Great Falls Park

Great Falls Park spanning across both Maryland and Virginia offers stunning views of the Potomac River’s roaring waterfalls and rugged landscapes. The Maryland side of the park is slightly less crowded than the Virginia side, but the VA side has easier trails and plenty of cool cliffs and views.

I also love that the park offers picnic and cookout areas, so you can throw a low-cost celebration after your ceremony. The entry fee for the park is $20 per car, or you can use the annual National Park pass for free access. (If you’re planning on visiting a few parks per year, it easily pays for itself!)

You will need to obtain a permit to elope here, and you should submit it at least two weeks in advance. I always recommend obtaining the permit as early as possible, because they are approved on a first come first serve basis. You can learn more about the permit process here.

Fells Point in Baltimore

If you’re after waterfront AND city vibes, Fells Point is a really awesome choice. This vibrant Baltimore neighborhood features cobblestone streets, picturesque harbor views, and an urban yet cozy vibe. There are also tons of dining options and accommodations nearby making it very convenient for your stay and celebration.

Depending on the location you choose for your ceremony in Baltimore, you may need to get a permit. You can learn about that here! However, as your elopement photographer, that’s something I will absolutely help you figure out!

George Peabody Library

If you’re a book lover like me, the George Peabody Library in Baltimore is a striking venue with towering bookshelves and stunning architecture. It’s consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world, and when you visit it – you can definitely see why!

Unfortunately, the Library doesn’t allow elopements per se. If you want to have your ceremony here, it only allows weddings with catered receptions. But don’t let it stop you from having your ceremony elsewhere and coming here for your elopement portraits! You will need to get a permit to visit the library only for your photos, however, that’s something I’ll help you take care of as your photographer!

Seneca Creek State Park

Seneca Creek State Park offers over 6,000 acres of natural beauty for your adventure elopement. There’s a mix of woodlands, meadows, a beautiful lake, and over 50 miles of trails – plenty of spots backdrops to explore!

I also love that Seneca Creek State Park offers picnic pavilions and open-air picnic groves, so you can throw a low-cost celebration after your ceremony. Depending on your chosen spot the rental fee is about $50 to $200, plus the Park entrance fee. You can reserve your picnic area here!

Check out this Seneca Creek State Park elopement for inspiration!

Federal Hill Park

Located in Baltimore, Federal Hill Park provides sweeping views of the Inner Harbor. This urban park is ideal for couples who want a mix of greenery and open spaces with city vibes. Plus, the city offers lots of options for your stay and celebration, as well!

To elope in Federal Hill Park, you’ll need to apply for a permit. Their elopement package is $250 for 2 hours and up to 50 guests. You can learn more about their permit process and regulations here.

Citizens Ballroom

Citizens Ballroom is a large bank turned into a timeless, elegant wedding venue in downtown Frederick. With its grand architecture, chic interiors, and thoughtful amenities like getting-ready suites, this venue makes every moment feel luxurious. And the rooftop access is an amazing bonus, as well!

The venue is great for small, intimate weddings of up to 40 people. If you’re planning for a larger event – they can accommodate up to 175 guests. While they don’t advertise elopement packages, contact them directly and they’ll share hourly rates.

Walters Art Museum

If you love timeless and chic art museum vibes, Walters Art Museum is going to be the most beautiful backdrop for your elopement portraits. Here you’ll be surrounded by stunning galleries and artwork, as well as the museum’s own ornate architecture.

At the moment, the museum doesn’t allow facility rentals, however, you can still come here to capture your photos! The entrance to the museum is free of charge and it can get busy, so I definitely recommend coming here earlier in the day to avoid crowds.

Downtown Annapolis

Annapolis, Maryland’s capital, is a quaint waterfront town with cobblestone streets, historic charm, and plenty of photo-worthy spots. Specific locations like the docks, Main Street, or City Dock offer intimate ceremony spots.

Personalize your day with fun activities! You could say your vows at the charming Annapolis Wedding Chapel, then we can take portraits around downtown and the waterfront. There’s tons of cute local shops to browse or visit one of the amazing restaurants (especially great if you love seafood!).

To add more fun and adventure to your Maryland elopement, consider renting a sailboat for your ceremony or after the elopement celebration!

Local Breweries & Wineries

Maryland is home to some of the most amazing breweries and wineries! If that sounds like more your vibe, consider checking out my favorites:

  • Guinness Brewery and Union Craft Brewing in Baltimore offer industrial-chic vibes and incredible brews. Both venues have event spaces for small ceremonies and receptions.
  • Boordy Vineyards and Old Westminster Winery provide romantic settings with rolling vineyards and cozy tasting rooms. These venues often offer elopement packages that include wine tastings and access to private areas for your ceremony.

  1. Amira Maruf says:

Hi there! My name is Amira and my partner and I would like to get eloped on 5.25.25 in DC (we live in Dallas, TX) but are struggling to find locations for that time of year. We choose DC for many reasons, I was born there, my mom went to university there, my dad has lived there for 35+ year (still does), we have a large support system of family nearby, and we want to self-officiate. We loved the idea of the Library of Congress, but noticed that they are closed on Sunday’s (our chosen date). Do you have any recommendations that are similar that are in DC? Thank you so much in advance! <3

    • Juliana Wall says:

Hey Amira! Congrats on your elopement in DC! You can still do photos at the Library of Congress outside on the steps without a permit so you can still include the Library if you want to! There are some other locations such as the art museums that give similar vibes of the inside of the Library that you could look into.
